IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
BCWA5 customers:
We are once again asking ALL customers to immediately stop unnecessary and high-volume water use.
The Madison County water storage tank that supplies BCWA5 is struggling to gain capacity because water demand remains too high. Despite our previous requests for conservation, current usage continues to place significant pressure on the water system.
This situation is becoming increasingly serious and is putting our system at risk of having to implement mandatory water conservation measures.
Effective immediately, customers should STOP all unnecessary, high-volume water use, including:
- Irrigation of lawns, landscaping, and sod
- Filling or significantly topping off large swimming pools
- Washing vehicles
- Other activities that use large quantities of water but are not essential
This is no longer a short-term request.
Our water conservation request is now in effect for the foreseeable future, particularly while our area continues to experience exceptionally dry and very hot conditions.
We recognize that many of our customers have invested significant amounts of money installing and maintaining lawns and large areas of sod. We understand the desire to protect that investment. However, the ability of BCWA5 to continue providing reliable water service to every customer must take priority.
Our responsibility is to ensure that the available water supply is managed fairly and equally for all customers. Allowing a relatively small number of customers to use large volumes of water for non-essential purposes can jeopardize the water supply available to everyone.
If water demand does not decrease
If voluntary conservation efforts are not sufficient to bring water demand down, BCWA5 may be forced to take additional measures, which could include:
- Implementing mandatory restrictions on irrigation and other outdoor water use;
- Establishing specific days or hours when outdoor water use is permitted;
- Prohibiting the filling or refilling of swimming pools;
- Issuing warnings or notices of violation to customers who fail to comply;
- Increasing monitoring of unusually high water consumption; and
- Taking additional enforcement measures authorized under applicable water system policies and regulations.
We do not want to reach the point of imposing mandatory restrictions. However, our first responsibility is to protect the water supply and maintain service for the entire BCWA5 customer base.
Please help us avoid mandatory restrictions.
If you are currently irrigating your lawn or landscaping, please turn your irrigation system off. If you are planning to fill a swimming pool or perform another activity involving substantial water use, please postpone it.
Every gallon conserved right now helps the Madison County tank regain capacity and helps protect the water supply for all BCWA5 customers.
We urgently need everyone's cooperation. Thank you for doing your part to protect our water system and ensure that we can continue providing water service to everyone.
