Important Notice About Your Drinking Water
Our water system recently received a notice from the Arkansas Department of Health regarding levels of total trihalomethanes (TTHMs), which are disinfection by-products formed when chlorine interacts with naturally occurring organic matter in water.
For the monitoring period of October through December 2025, testing showed that one sampling location slightly exceeded the regulatory limit of 80 parts per billion (ppb), with an average level of 82 ppb.
Is My Water Safe?
Yes. The Arkansas Department of Health has advised that the water remains safe to drink. This exceedance does not represent an immediate risk to health. However, long-term exposure to elevated levels of TTHMs above regulatory standards may increase certain health risks, which is why the standard is in place.
What Is Being Done?
We take this matter seriously and have taken the following steps:
- We contacted our wholesale water provider, Madison County Water Utilities, to coordinate efforts and understand the treatment adjustments they are making to reduce disinfection by-products.
- We have increased flushing of water lines in the affected area to help reduce water age and minimize the formation of TTHMs in the system.
We will continue to monitor water quality closely and work with our provider and state regulators to ensure levels return to and remain within acceptable standards.
What Should Customers Do?
No immediate action is required. However, if you have specific health concerns, you may wish to consult your healthcare provider.
